In the classroom, I am continually implementing differentiated instruction to better meet the needs of each and every one of my students. As noted by Howard Gardner, there are multiple forms of intelligence and when instruction is versatile, hands on and multi-sensory, learning becomes more effective. It is so important for children to become lifelong learners and to be able to apply what they learn in school to real life situations. Education also means educating the "whole" child which incorporates developing a child's cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth. Developmentally appropriate practice is vital. It is my hope that every child will continue to discover and learn new information throughout their entire life. It is here in first grade that the positive feelings towards learning will begin and continue to flourish for years to come.
An additional hope is for each and every child to believe in himself/herself and to understand how smart and truly wonderful he/she is. We encourage each student to think positive and to have a growth mindset. Every child is both unique and special in his/her own way and therefore has his/her own gift to share with the class. I continuously encourage children to believe in their dreams and tell them that if they work hard enough and never give up, anything is possible. I am always here for the children and look forward to hearing many stories about their adventures with friends, their fascinations, their joys, and their trying times. Together we are going to have a tremendous year.
